Nutritional Planning
Nutrition is the science of food, the nutrients in foods and how the body uses those nutrients. It includes the process of ingestion, digestion, absorption, metabolism, transport, storage and excretion of those nutrients.
I just wanted to say that the training and attention I have received at Progressive fitness has been outstanding. Brad’s one on one attention to my special needs has been instrumental to my recovery from rotator cuff surgery. Brad continuously pushed me to stretch my boundaries but was always safe and we worked on specific problem areas until the problem(s) went away. I’m almost 100% and beyond where I was before I had my shoulder surgery.Along with chronic lower back problems, I’ve had my challenges but I have made tremendous progress and feel so much better and stronger than when I started. Thank you Progressive fitness!

The Only Facility In Point Loma / Ocean Beach To Integrate the Gravity Training System and Spin Bikes For a "Complete" Workout.
To give you all an idea of just how new I am to this, I did an Internet search on "blogging", and I still don't quite understand what the word means. I'm hoping we can figure this out together; in the process learning new and simple techniques that can improve your physical health. My greatest joys are in helping people find relief from physical pain, watching them surpass their weight loss goals, hearing that they no longer require certain medications and are happy and stress free! How awesome is that?!
For 2012, I decided to explore the blog as a means of delivering safe and effective exercise and stretching practices, to counteract the many “extreme” style workouts that have been introduced to the industry. I've watched in disbelief, as people are encouraged to complete exercises that can absolutely injure them in the short and long term. From the perspective of a personal trainer, the dynamic movements that both programs advocate are not for everyone.
We all know that cold weather is a matter of relativity in Southern California. It’s not snow and high winds but we can feel the downward shift in our motivation for activity, when the temperature dips below 60 degrees and the sun is setting a little earlier. Curling up with a book and a hot cup of tea seems like the obvious choice over heading to the gym to sweat, right? Sorry Rockstars, but no. This is actually the best time to make exercise a cornerstone of your daily life!
You will be making higher demands from your mind and body for the next 60 days as more is asked of you. The holidays can mean excess calories as you celebrate with parties and family gatherings. If due dates at work are pushed up to accommodate the days off, there goes a chance for stress levels to rise as you kick it into gear. In a time that is infused with the spirit of giving it may be challenging to take some time for you. I assure you it’s more than necessary. Daily 30 minute walks and a minimum of 1-2 group training classes per week at Progressive Fitness can give you the boost you need and relieve any tension the time may bring.

I used to hate exercising. I mean really hate it. I tried all kinds of exercising: bought a gym membership, walked several miles a couple times each week, bought a stationary bike for home, bought yoga DVD's, all to sit covered in dust. Exercising made your muscles hurt, you got sweaty, & it took time away from relaxing at home; what was good about exercising?
Then when I entered my 30's, I started to feel stiff in various muscles, I couldn't make it up a flight of stairs without being out of breath, & I was diagnosed with diabetes. I wasn't that overweight but enough to be annoying. I had resigned myself to living a life like this until I met Brad, one of the trainers & owners at Progressive Fitness.
He said the one thing that I needed to hear to push me to exercise. He said their system focuses on flexibility & range of movement. Flexibility was on my mind more & more because I was concerned about getting old & needing a walker or scooter to get around. I didn't want my lack of activity to affect my ability to do simple things like walking when I got older.
Another thing Brad said was "No Excuses"; the smaller class size meant more attention would be paid to me & he would be able to hold me accountable better so I wouldn't use the traditional excuses to skip a class. I needed this tough love, this personalized attention that you can't find at a larger gym.
Now I attend the group training sessions 3 times a week & I truly love it!
I am an avid fitness junky, so when I heard about Brad’s early morning sessions I had to check them out. I love to kick box, run, lift weights and just about everything else you can throw in my direction – but Brad’s class is by far in my top favorite workouts of all time. The structure of his class – mixing in grueling cardio and precise strength training exercises that cover the entire body – left me sore for days in all the right places (and I don’t usually get sore!) The plan is simple: to change your life and make you more fit and toned then you could ever be on your own. Brad is not only motivating and hilarious but also incredibly in tune with the body and how shifting an inch in an exercise can make a world of difference. His practice is innovative and exciting, and is filled with fun loving, warm people. I would recommend Brad’s training to anyone and everyone if you truly want to see results. He loves to say “In life, there are only two things…” and the class who all know him best chants back in unison “excuses and results!!”
